Research Training Reading Group

"Classic Texts in Music and Culture"

The IMR PhD reading group, convened by Professor Anahid Kassabian, will be starting up early next year. The reading group will focus on classic and contemporary texts in cultural and social theory, and will bring together students from different universities. Its rationale is:

  • To stimulate focused reading of classic texts on cultural and social theory
  • To provide dedicated time for postgraduates to discuss in depth the broad implications and applications of these writings across a variety of research topics in musicology
  • To create a sense of intellectual community and develop the research culture for postgraduates around the IMR

The sessions will take place at Senate House, University of London, from 2-5pm on the following Saturdays:

  • February 13th
  • March 19th
  • April 23rd
  • May 14th
  • June 11th

Places are strictly limited. If you would like to be considered, please send 150 words, explaining why you would like to take part and how it would help your PhD studies, to geoff.baker@rhul.ac.uk.

Students from RHUL, KCL and City should apply through their respective departments.
The cost of participating is £50, and applicants must be willing to commit to all five dates.
The deadline for applying is Friday 8 January.
